Mom grabs child, runs from carjacker

Share

A City Heights mother was carjacked as she grabbed her child from her SUV and ran indoors Thursday morning, San Diego police said.

The mother and child were in a Ford Expedition in an alley along Highland and Polk avenue when another woman walked up, grabbed the driver’s arm and tried to pull her out of the SUV, police said.

When that failed, the woman opened a rear door. The driver grabbed her child and scrambled out of the SUV, while the woman appeared to draw something from her own purse.

The driver didn’t see if the woman had a weapon, but escaped into her house with her child, police said. She called police about 7:30 a.m.

When officers got there, the SUV and the thief were gone. She was described as Latina, in her late 30s, with her hair in a ponytail. She wore a gray shirt and black pants.
