UPDATE

The fire was 100 percent contained Sunday afternoon. Officials said 28 acres burned.

A brush fire that started near Ramona had burned 28 acres by Saturday morning and was 75 percent contained by evening, Cal Fire authorities said.

It started around 2:30 p.m. Friday when embers from a car fire spread to brush along state Route 67 south of Mt. Woodson Golf Club. Flames spread down a canyon along the right shoulder of the highway’s northbound lanes near Rock House Road.

Cal Fire officials were referring to the blaze as the Rock Fire.

Because homes on a nearby hillside were threatened, the Sheriff’s Department initially advised residents to evacuate. The evacuation notice was lifted Friday night.

No injuries have been reported and no homes or structures have burned.
