Police tried to serve a warrant on a North Park man who slammed the door in their faces, then threatened suicide in a two-hour standoff before surrendering Saturday night.

Officers surrounded the Florida Street apartment, near Alabama Street and began evacuating neighbors about 7:30 p.m., police said.

The parolee was reported to have attempted suicide before. Negotiators repeatedly ordered and urged the man to come out.

With officers staged nearby to make a quick arrest, the man followed orders to come out with his hands up. He was taken into custody about 9:20 p.m. No one was injured during the incident.
