Motorcyclist dies after collision in El Cajon

A motorcyclist died after a head-on collision with an SUV on Avocado Avenue Saturday night.

The motorcycle rider’s name was not released. He was in his 50s, El Cajon police said.

He was heading north shortly before 8 p.m. when the driver of a southbound Kia Soul made a left turn in front of him, police Lt. Randy Soulard said.

The vehicles collided south of East Chase Avenue, near a driveway into the parking lot for Vons supermarket and El Pollo Loco restaurant. The motorcycle rider suffered major injuries and died at a hospital, Soulard said.

Soulard said the Kia driver, an El Cajon resident, was not injured and stopped after the collision. The driver cooperated with police and was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Soulard did not release the gender or age of the driver.
