Beyoncé announces Formation world tour dates

Share

Beyoncé didn’t personally run or pass for a touchdown at Sunday’s Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. But the super savvy pop and R&B vocal superstar may have scored the most points, marketing-wise, by using her halftime show guest spot with Coldplay as the kickoff to her post-halftime announcement about the first leg of her 2016 Formation world tour.

Fittingly, all of the dates announced thus far are in stadiums, including Beyoncé’s May 12 concert at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium.

The 13-city North American opening leg takes its name from her new album, which she teased Saturday by releasing a politically and sexually charged video for “Formation’s” title track. Her tour will open with an April 27 show at Marlins Park in Miami and conclude with a June 12 show at Pennsylvania’s Hershey Park Stadium, near Harrisburg. Then the tour moves to Europe. All dates appear below.

The tour is being produced by Live Nation, which owns Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista and House of Blues in the Gaslamp Quarter. Tickets will go on sale this week; prices and on-sale times for Beyoncé’s San Diego concert appear below.

Beyoncé headlined at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show. Her May 12 concert here at Qualcomm will be the first headlining performance at the stadium since the now-dormant English teen-pop group One Direction opened its tour there last summer. It will also mark Beyoncé’s first performance as a solo artist in any venue here since 2007, when her The Beyoncé Experience tour included a stop at the San Diego Sports Arena (which is now known as Valley View Casino Center).

Beyoncé’s 2014 On the Run tour with her husband, Jay Z, skipped San Diego in favor of two shows at the 100,000 capacity Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Her 2013/2014 The Mrs. Carter Show tour skipped San Diego in favor of two shows at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Her 2009/2010 “I Am...” world tour also skipped San Diego, in favor of one Los Angeles show at Staples Center. Prior to her 2007 Sports Arena concert here, Beyoncé performed at Coors (now Sleep Train) Amphitheatre on the 2005 farewell tour by Destiny’s Child, the vocal group that propelled her to solo stardom.

Ticket prices for the May 12 Qualcomm Stadium show are $40, $70, $95, $165 and $300 each, plus service charges.

A pre-sale for members of her fan club will run from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 5 p.m. Wednesday. A pre-sale for American Express card members will run from noon Tuesday until 5 p.m. Wednesday. A Live Nation pre-sale will run Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets for the general public will go on sale Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com, and by phone at (800) 745-3000.
