Strong Santa Anas to whip East County

Share

Santa Ana winds will gust upwards of 60 mph late Sunday in parts of East County, possibly affecting power lines and breaking tree limbs, says the National Weather Service.

The winds will pick up speed Sunday afternoon and blow into Monday, hitting communities like Ramona and Alpine.

“It doesn’t look like the winds will make it to San Diego, but we could have some gusts in North County, in places like Carlsbad,” said Brandt Maxwell, a weather service forecaster.

Although they’ll be strong, the Santa Anas won’t be as powerful or as widespread as the onshore winds that pounded the county last weekend.

A high wind warning will be in effect from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon. The offshore winds will lift daytime high temperatures into the 70s along the coast.
