Cyber Security legend to teach at USD
Roger Schell, an engineer who helped revolutionize the way the U.S. government protects sensitive information on computers, has been named a distinguished fellow at the University of San Diego.
Schell will periodically teach at USD’s Center for Cyber Security Engineering and Technology, which was created last year to train people in the rapidly growing field of cyber security.
“Roger is amazing. This is the person that people in cyber security want to hear from,” said Winnie Callahan, the center’s director.
Schell is widely known for developing new ways to protect information that is stored and distributed by commercial, industry and government computers. He has been especially influential in helping the U.S. National Security Agency to evaluate and improve network security.
In 2012, Schell was elected to the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame, whose membership includes such renowned figures as cryptography expert Susan Landau and Internet pioneer Vinton Cerf.
