A man who died in police custody Sunday has been identified as Guillermo Martinez, a 42-year-old San Diego resident, authorities said Tuesday.

Police took Martinez into custody about 12:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a man who had been causing a disturbance and trying to jump a fence at 30th and Market streets in Grant Hill, San Diego police said.

Martinez had drugs on him and was showing signs of being under the influence, a homicide lieutenant said.
