Face-lift helps Celebrity ship shine
In the uber-competitive world of the cruise line industry, ships regularly undergo multimillion-dollar makeovers, from dazzling lounges and new gourmet restaurants to decked-out penthouse suites.
Face-lift helps Celebrity ship shine
Recently docked in San Diego for the start of a Panama Canal cruise, Celebrity Cruises’ 2,170-passenger Infinity ship showed off its recent upgrades, including a new Italian-inspired steakhouse and a reimagined rooftop deck oriented around a giant video screen, which will be used for broadcasting sporting events and showing movies paired with themed appetizers.
The upgrades are part of a $16 million investment to refresh the Infinity and a sister ship, the Celebrity Summit. The new rooftop space, on the ship’s 12th deck, will formally open Dec. 5.

Celebrity will have a total of four voyages leaving from San Diego during the current September-to-May cruise season, most of them eastbound Panama Canal itineraries. That number will increase to five during the 2016-17 season, according to the San Diego Unified Port District.
