9 San Diego scientists named AAAS Fellows
Nine San Diego scientists have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the influential journal Science.
The AAAS said in a statement that it elected a total of 347 fellows for 2015, all of whom had made “scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.”
The local fellows and their disciplines: Tariq M. Rana, UC San Diego (chemistry); Shu Chien, UC San Diego (engineering); Gen-Sheng Feng, UC San Diego (medical sciences); Edward H. Koo, UC San Diego ( neuroscience); Stephen B. Howell, UC San Diego, pharmaceutical science; Paul S. Mischel, Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (neuroscience); Mitchell Kronenberg, La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology (medical sciences); Annalisa Berta, San Diego State University (geology and geography); Beverly M. Emerson, Salk Institute for Biological Studies (biological sciences).
