Strong rip currents hit San Diego beaches

Share

A powerful southwest swell is producing dangerous rip currents along the entire San Diego County coastline, posing a threat to swimmers and inexperienced surfers.

The National Weather Service says the currents will last at least through Wednesday, as the favored breaks get hit with waves in the 2-foot to 4-foot range, with some sets up to 5-feet. A hazardous surf advisory will be in effect through Wednesday night.

Swimmers and inexperienced surfers are encouraged to enter the water in front of lifeguard towers that are staffed, and to examine the shoreline for rips.
