Nassco launches huge container ship
General Dynamics-NASSCO on Saturday launched the Perla del Caribe, a 764-foot containership that will carry goods from the U.S. to Puerto Rico. The vessel, which weighs more than 15,400 metric tons, slid down the ways into San Diego Bay as a crowd of 3,000 cheered. It was the second launch of the year for NASSCO, which is operating at near capacity. The company plans to launch a third ship in December.
