Showers will give way to heat wave

Strong monsoon moisture is flowing into San Diego County, producing widely scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. The National Weather Service says the rain should disappear in most areas before the start of evening rush hour.

But it will be warm and humid across the county tonight. And the region will experience a heat wave on Thursday and Friday as a large high pressure system settles over the southwestern U.S.

“The heat is going to drive a lot of people to the beach,” said James Thomas, a weather service forecaster.

Thursday’s high at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field will hit 85 degrees, about eight degrees above normal. The high will be 87 on Friday. Forecasters say inland valleys will reach the 90s and, in some spots, low 100s.
