Heat advisory issued for San Diego
A heat advisory will be in effect for the entire county from 11 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. on Sunday as high pressure and offshore winds lift some inland temperatures to 100 degrees, increasing the danger of wildfires, the National Weather Service says.
The advisory warns that "daytime high temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees above normal (inland) with Saturday likely being the hottest day."
Forecasters say Saturday's temperatures will reach the upper 70s to low 80s at the coast, and the upper 80s and low 90s in regions near the coast, such as Mission Valley. The heat will soar into the upper 90s and low 100s across many inland valleys and foothills. The temperature could reach the low 80s on Sunday when the Chargers host the New York Jets at Qualcomm Stadium. The game begins at 1:25 p.m.
The offshore winds will begin on Thursday, reaching 35-40 mph in the foothills. They'll fade overnight then return early Friday, reaching the 25-35 mph range inland.
"The Santa Ana winds are arriving right on time," says Stephanie Sullivan, a weather service forecaster.
Projected highs:
San Diego: 84 on Thursday and Friday, 83 on Saturday, 82 on Sunday.
Escondido: 94 on Thursday, 96 on Friday, 97 on Saturday, 94 on Sunday
Ramona: 94 on Thursday, 99 on Friday and Saturday, and 97 on Sunday
