Escondido police said no one was injured in a drive-by shooting outside a residence Wednesday night.

Officers and a helicopter crew responded about 8 p.m. to a report of multiple gunshots on West 11th Avenue, near South Orange Street.

The shots were fired from a white truck at a group of people standing in front of a residence, police Sgt. Bode Berreth said. The truck was possibly a Toyota, he said.

It was not known how many people were in the truck, or who fired the shots. The group that had been targeted fled before police arrived.

It also was not yet known if the incident was gang-related, the sergeant said.

On Monday, Escondido police investigated a shooting that occurred about 1 p.m. on West 15th Avenue and South Escondido Boulevard. A 19-year-old Escondido man was walking on the sidewalk when he was approached by a man who fired several rounds at him from close range, police Lt. Eric Skaja said. He was seriously injured and underwent surgery at a hospital.

The motive for the shooting is not yet known, the lieutenant said. There was no description available of the suspect, but a pickup was seen leaving the area. It was described as small to mid-size, gray, with a black ladder rack.
