Chargers RB Ryan Mathews practices

Wednesday brought confirmation to every indication Sunday.

A shoulder injury is not expected to force Ryan Mathews to miss time.

The Chargers running back was sidelined for much of the second half against the Rams due to the third-quarter ailment, suffered when tackle D.J. Fluker and linebacker Alec Ogletree fell on top of him, about 600 pounds of body weight pushing his left shoulder into the ground. Mathews returned late in the fourth quarter.

Inside linebacker Andrew Gachkar (knee), outside linebacker Dwight Freeney (rest) and nose tackle Ryan Carrethers (elbow) did not practice Wednesday.

It was the Chargers’ first on-field session of the week leading up to Sunday’s game against the Ravens. The team will travel to Baltimore on Friday.

Despite missing time, Mathews still finished with 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries in a 27-24 win. He was active for his second game since missing seven straight with a right knee sprain.

Mathews’ workload is expected to grow over the remaining five regular-season games.

He led the NFL in December carries in 2013, keying a run to the playoffs.

Gachkar injured his knee Sunday when a Rams player collided with incidentally on a fourth-quarter back. Carrethers suffered a dislocated elbow on Nov. 16 against the Raiders. He was inactive Sunday. Wednesday was Freeney’s scheduled rest day.
