UPDATE:Arrest made in school Internet threats

Canyon Crest Academy in Carmel Valley went on lockdown with an Internet shooting threat Thursday, minutes after a similar incident resolved without injury at Torrey Pines High School.

No shots had been fired and no injuries were reported at Canyon Crest, located on Village Center Loop off Carmel Valley Road, San Diego police said.

They were notified of the threat shortly before 3 p.m. A student saw the posted threat that said, “I’m on the way with three guns,” and told a teacher, who reported to the principal, police said. It wasn’t clear on what social media site the threat was found.

Police officers went to the high school and were escorting students off the campus.

Earlier at Torrey Pines High School, a student discovered on the Yik Yak social media site a posting from an anonymous person who intended to shoot everyone at that school at 11:55 a.m.

Students were locked down for three hours while police and staff searched classrooms and the grounds, finding no threat or weapons. Students were allowed to leave the campus in stages, and the campus closed before 3 p.m.

San Dieguito Union High School District posted this notice on its website:

Unfortunately, Canyon Crest Academy, late in the school day right before dismissal time, also received a cyber-threat. The school went into an immediate lockdown per our safety protocol. They are now in the process, at 3:25 pm with a large police presence, dismissing students. SDUHSD has been working with the San Diego Police Department’s Cyber Crime Unit all day. Updates will be posted as necessary.

Plans are for CCA and TPHS to have a regular school day tomorrow. CCA & TPHS principals will communicate later this evening on school resuming tomorrow, November 21st.
