Goldsmith endorses Cate

Share

City Attorney Jan Goldsmith is endorsing taxpayer advocate Chris Cate for the only San Diego City Council seat up for grabs this November.

Cate, a Republican like Goldsmith, got 47 percent of the vote in the June 3 primary, short of the 50 percent required to avoid a runoff against Democrat Carol Kim, the second-place finisher with 32 percent of the vote.

Three other open council seats were won in June by Republican Lorie Zapf and Democrats David Alvarez and Myrtle Cole.

“Chris Cate is the right candidate with the knowledge, experience and leadership to be San Diego’s next City Councilman,” Goldsmith said. “Following the controversy over the last year, it is important that we elect thoughtful leaders that have the experience to handle the job.”

Cate said he looked forward to working with Goldsmith if he wins the runoff.

“It is a huge honor to have the confidence of our City Attorney Jan Goldsmith, who has been so instrumental in the recovery of San Diego,” he said.

Either Cate or Kim will represent District 6, which includes Kearny Mesa, Mira Mesa and parts of Clairemont and Rancho Peñasquitos.
