Family said crash victim just moved to SD

The crash that killed three people Friday claimed the life of a 35-year-old man who had just moved to San Diego from Ridgecrest, his family said Sunday.

Jeffrey Becker, 35, had only lived in the city for a couple of months before he died in the four-vehicle crash on a transition ramp from north Interstate 805 to west state Route 52 about 11:15 p.m.

Becker was the only passenger wearing a seatbelt when the Cadillac Escalade he was riding in went up an embankment, rolled multiple times and struck a pillar before an Acura car crashed into it, the California Highway Patrol said.

Several other vehicles were also struck.

The two other crash victims have not yet been identified.

William Cady, 25, of San Diego, was arrested at a hospital on suspicion of drunken driving, the CHP said.

Becker’s sister, Crystal Becker, 30, said her brother moved to San Diego to try “something new.”

“He was a fun, loving, caring brother, father, son and friend,” she said.

Jeffrey Becker was survived by two young daughters, and his love for his family was one of his shining characteristics, his sister said.

“He will be truly missed,” she said.

Crystal Becker said she doesn’t know where her brother was going but she doesn’t blame the driver for his death.

“I don’t have hard feelings because he knew he shouldn’t drink and drive, but he got in the car,” she said.
