For Ryan Mathews, more of the same
As expected, Ryan Mathews has remained absent from Chargers practices.
The running back was not at Wednesday’s practice, an important session the day before the Chargers take a Christmas holiday.
So, Mathews has missed all eight practices, plus both games, since a Patriots defender dealt him what appeared to be a nasty ankle sprain on Dec. 7. He’s been scarce in the locker room, as well, during the periods when it is open to the media.
It seems unlikely that Mathews will play against the Chiefs on Sunday.
Keenan Allen (collarbone) and Chris Watt (ankle) also were absent from Wednesday’s practice.
Philip Rivers, who sat out last Wednesday’s practice with a back ailment, is practicing Wednesday.
