Ex-Charger Thomas Keiser joins Cardinals

Share

Thomas Keiser never seemed to fret his situation.

The outside linebacker trailed Tourek Williams this training camp in a position battle. Keiser would shrug his shoulders, expressing confidence he would play in the NFL this year, be it for the Chargers or another team.

He was right.

Cut on Saturday, Keiser was awarded to the Cardinals off waivers Sunday. He will face his former team Sept. 8 when San Diego opens its season in Arizona. Tackle Michael Harris was the only other cut Charger to be claimed on waivers Sunday, joining the Vikings.

Keiser, 25, started three of 12 games in 2013 with the team. He had 21 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Naturally, he has intimate knowledge of San Diego’s defense, along with some familiarity of its offense. It is fairly common for a player to be probed for information about an upcoming opponent for which he recently played.

On Sunday, the Chargers added former Cardinals quarterback Ryan Lindley onto their practice squad.

It is said to be coincidental that Lindley played for the Cardinals, the Chargers more interested in the player than his former team. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich was familiar with Lindley, having coached Arizona’s wide receivers when Lindley was drafted in the 2012 sixth round.
