Storm surf to pound San Diego beaches
A south swell juiced up by Tropical Storm Lowell will generate big waves and strong rip currents at San Diego County beaches Friday through Sunday, posing fun and danger on what's expected to be a warm weekend. Solspot.com says that larger sets could reach 7' to 8' at some south-facing beaches, particularly on Saturday. Beachcombers should not turn their back on the ocean while walking along the shore, and people should stay off the edge of rocks and jetties from Imperial Beach to Oceanside.
Solspot says, "The tropical energy will be mixing with a blend of smaller but longer-period S-SW swells moving up from the South Pacific as well as some local NW windswell (290-300). Look for the biggest waves at spots with direct exposure to the S-SW swells and the excellent combo breaks."
There will be a 4' 2'' high tide shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday and a 4' 4'' high tide at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday. Sea surface temps: 70-71 degrees.
