Jeromey Clary, Vincent Brown still out

Four days shy of the third preseason game, Jeromey Clary and Vincent Brown are still not practicing.

Clary was a spectator Thursday when the Chargers resumed workouts following an off day Wednesday. The right guard, coming off shoulder and hip surgeries, hasn’t practiced with the team since early January.

Brown has been sidelined since he strained a calf muscle on July 25, the second session of training camp.

Jason Verrett, however, is showing progress. Working in full pads a second consecutive session, the rookie cornerback took part in a tackling drill. Tuesday, he sat out the drill.

As expected, non-participants Thursday were Manti Te’o (foot), Sean Lissemore (ankle) and Jahleel Addae (hamstring) along with Lawrence Guy (shoulder) and Marcus Cromartie (groin).

Kerwynn Williams returned to practice.

In place of Clary both preaseason starts have gone to Johnnie Troutman, a 10-game starter last year. Rookie Chris Watt practiced with the first team until suffering an apparent head or neck injury two days before the exhibition opener. He played in the second game.

Brown wroked as the fourth receiver in spring training, behind Keenan Allen, Eddie Royal and Malcom Floyd. Newcomer Dontrelle Inman and Seyi Ajirotutu have rotated in fourth and fifth spots this summer.
