Verrett dresses out, with a catch

Chargers rookie Jason Verrett was in his full pads Tuesday.

But it wasn’t a full-contact session for the cornerback who had shoulder surgery in March.

Verrett sat out tackling drills, which entailed slamming into a padded dummy and sliding across a mat.

A day earlier, Verrett was out of the red “non-contact” jersey for the first practice since early this month. It was a non-padded session.

Until he is cleared to take part in tackling drills, it’s doubtful Verrett will be cleared to make his NFL game debut. The third preseason game will be Sunday against the 49ers.

Vincent Brown (calf), Jeromey Clary (hip and shoulder) and Lawrence Guy (shoulder) didn’t practice Tuesday. Also sidelined were Manti Te’o (foot), Sean Lissemore (ankle) and Jahleel Addae (hamstring) -- who’ve all been ruled out for the rest of the week.

Nick Hardwick returned to practice.
