Did you serve aboard the Peleliu?

Share

On July 4th, U-T San Diego will publish a special section that focuses on the long, large and evolving presence of the Navy in San Diego. The package will include a story about the amphibious assault ship Peleliu, which has been homeported in San Diego since the early 1990s. The Navy plans to decommission the “Iron Nickel” and replace it with the new amphibious warship America. We will be including comments about life aboard the Peleliu from current and former crew members. We welcome your submissions.

We are looking for everything from simple reflections about day-to-day service on the Peleliu to memories of such events as the ship transporting the first US Marines to Afghanistan in 2001. Please email your submissions to gary.robbins@utsandiego.com. Include your complete name, where you live now, and what your job was when you were aboard Peleliu. We’re also looking for photographs.
