Poway to host budget Town Hall meeting
The city of Poway is hosting its first-ever town hall budget meeting on Tuesday, giving residents a chance to say how they think the city should spend its money.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at 13325 Civic Center Drive.
The city has already issued a survey on spending priorities that asks respondents one question: If Poway’s budget was $100 how would you spend it? Suggested
priorities include administration, the Fire Department, maintenance, parks and open space, recreation and community events, roads, the Sheriff’s Department
and savings/reserves. The survey also includes an “other” category for residents to identify their own priorities.
Councilman Steve Vaus, who first proposed the town hall meeting, said he’s seen some of the survey responses and that people are going to be a bit surprised
by how much public safety costs Poway each year.
The survey can be taken online at www.poway.org. Residents can also print the survey and bring it to the meeting.
In other city business, the council made it official last Tuesday that Dan Singer, 50, will become Poway’s fourth city manager.
Singer — now serving as the city manager of Goleta — will take control of the day-to-day operations of Poway on June 1. His employment agreement provides
for an annual salary of $219,950.
