Father Joe endorses Bob Brewer for DA
District Attorney candidate Bob Brewer added some star power to his campaign Thursday with the endorsement of Father Joe Carroll.
The San Diego community leader is featured in Brewer’s first campaign commercial.
“Bob Brewer is a decorated war hero, a widely respected state and federal prosecutor and most important to me, a man of great integrity,” Carroll says in the commercial, posted online for now. “And that’s what we need in that office.”
Brewer is calling the latest endorsement one of the most important for his campaign, pointing to Carroll’s longtime advocacy for the homeless and needy.
Brewer’s other endorsements include the vast majority of local law enforcement, four former U.S. attorneys and the Deputy City Attorneys Association.
Brewer, who works in private practice, is running against incumbent District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis and retired county prosecutor Terri Wyatt in the June 3 primary.
Dumanis’ campaign on Thursday said Carroll’s reference to Brewer as a prosecutor is misleading and should instead say he is a former prosecutor.
Dumanis has garnered the support of the Deputy District Attorneys Association as well as many of the county’s elected officials.
