Home and garden show opens Friday in Del Mar

DEL MAR -- More than 500 exhibitors will be showcased nextweekend at the 21st annual Spring Home/Garden Show at the Del MarFairgrounds.

This year’s show, which runs Friday through March 5, willfeature hundreds of booths sponsored by makers of landscape, gardenand outdoor products, as well as cabinetmakers and contractors tobuild outdoor patios, gazebos, barbecues, patio covers and otheryard elements. San Diego nurseries and private garden clubs willoffer plants for sale at discount prices, and workshops will beoffered in planting and plant care tips.

Garden Masters will host its annual garden exhibit, featuring 23display gardens with water features and innovative landscapedesigns.

Dozens of seminars will be offered by gardening experts ontopics including floral design, choosing ornamental foliage andmuch more. Green thumbs can even earn a “garden guru” certificateif they attend four seminars over the course of the weekend. Therewill also be daily round-table discussions on home and landscapeprojects featuring members of the California Landscape ContractorsAssociation and the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Show hours are noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdayand 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 5. Admission is $12 for adults andchildren 12 and under are free. Seniors can get in for $6 on Fridayonly. And tickets are half-price for anyone admitted after 3 p.m.each day. Free wheelchairs will be available for showgoers.
