Nacho Figueras: man of two polos

A big attraction on the San Diego Polo Club field Sunday was one particular player: Nacho Figueras.

Referred to as the “David Beckham of polo,” the Argentine player has graced magazine covers and is the face of Ralph Lauren Polo’s Black Label and several Polo men’s fragrances.

In 2009, Vanity Fair readers voted Figueras second most handsome man in the world (behind Robert Pattinson and ahead of Brad Pitt). Not to mention, he ranks in the top 100 polo players in the world.

Figueras, who has been playing polo in Santa Barbara, was joined by his son, Hilario, 15, on the field in Rancho Santa Fe Sunday.

Father and son, along with Figueras’ wife, model Delfina Blaquier, were hosted by Reuben Katz, founder of the La Jolla Polo Team and organizer of the exhibition match to benefit the International Testicular Cancer Foundation.

Figueras is passionate about raising the world profile of polo. Katz said he donated his time for the match on what was his first visit to San Diego. He may soon return for another polo event.

Incidentally, Figueras’ team won the match, 5-1. Young Hilario, who clearly takes after his dad, scored two goals.

After tweeting about the visit, Figueras later added a photo taken of him on Eddie V’s outdoor patio, captioned: “Sunset in La Jolla.”
